Introduction
The Department of Otorhinolaryngology was designated as a key specialty of the hospital in 1993, a Guangdong Provincial Key Specialty in 2013, and a Guangdong Provincial High-Level Clinical Key Specialty in 2019. Over the years, it has grown into one of the largest, strongest, and most influential departments in South China. The department is dedicated to the restoration, preservation, and reconstruction of sensory functions, focusing on diagnosing and treating disorders related to hearing, smell, balance, respiration, throat, and speech. It also emphasizes the preservation and reconstruction of sensory functions through innovative, comprehensive management of head and neck malignancies.
The department is recognized for its technological innovation, translational research, evidence-based clinical studies, and demonstration of advanced practices. It ranks 16th in the 2022 STEM (Science and Technology Evaluation Metrics) for Chinese Hospitals and was ranked 15th nationally over five years (2018–2022). In 2020 and 2021, it was the only Shenzhen specialty listed in the Guangdong Province Top Disciplines and ranked 5th in South China. The department is the hosting unit for the Shenzhen Clinical Research Center for Otorhinolaryngology Diseases, a regional branch of the National Clinical Research Center for Otorhinolaryngology Diseases in the Greater Bay Area, and a National New Drug Development Base.

The inpatient ward, located on the 12th floor of the surgical building, has 52 beds and is equipped with advanced medical devices, including ultra-HD endoscopy systems, ultra-HD electronic nasopharyngeal endoscopes, surgical navigation systems, vertigo diagnostic equipment, stroboscopy systems, and laser machines.
The department is divided into four subspecialties: laryngology and head-neck surgery, rhinology, outer ear surgery, and inner ear surgery.
